Database & Data Use Policy
Rights and restrictions associated with the GeneticCoding SNP Encyclopedia, genomic catalog, curated knowledgebase, reports, derived information, and future datasets.
1. What this policy covers
This policy covers the GeneticCoding SNP Encyclopedia, our genomic catalog, our curated knowledgebase, our reports, derived information, and any datasets we may publish now or in the future — together with the original and derived GeneticCoding contributions described in our Terms of Use.
2. Access to a record is not a license to the database
Viewing an individual SNP record, encyclopedia page, or other content does not constitute a license to copy, extract, or obtain the underlying database. Website access grants only the ordinary-use rights described below, subject to our Terms of Use.
3. Permitted ordinary use
Unless a separate written license applies, you may:
- View individual records and encyclopedia pages.
- Use individual records for personal research.
- Use individual records for educational research and teaching.
- Cite GeneticCoding with attribution as the source.
- Read and retain reports you have purchased.
- Share your own report where otherwise permitted by our Terms and our Data Redistribution & Export Policy.
4. Prohibited uses
Unless expressly authorized under a written license, the following are prohibited:
- Systematic extraction of content.
- Bulk downloading of records, pages, or data.
- Scraping or crawling intended to harvest database content.
- Automated enumeration of rsIDs or records.
- Database mirroring.
- Reconstruction of the GeneticCoding database.
- Republishing substantial portions of the database.
- Aggregation of GeneticCoding content for resale.
- Resale, redistribution, or sublicensing of GeneticCoding content or data.
- Creation of competing databases or substitute services using GeneticCoding content.
- Bulk storage of GeneticCoding proprietary annotations.
- Bypassing technical protections or circumventing query limits.
- Using multiple accounts to avoid access or usage restrictions.
5. Publicly known genomic facts
Publicly known genomic facts — such as rsIDs, gene names, genomic coordinates, and alleles — remain subject to their applicable legal status, including public-domain status where applicable. GeneticCoding does not claim exclusive ownership over facts merely because they appear in the GeneticCoding database. The restrictions in this policy protect GeneticCoding's original and proprietary contributions and compilations, not independently existing facts.
6. Licensing inquiries
If you need rights beyond ordinary use — including bulk access, research access, API access, or commercial rights — see our API & Commercial Data Licensing policy or contact us at /contact?subject=data-licensing.
